of his "Royal Master", and he certainly is handsome, he gave me a lot to carry away, but there are none of them I can make much use of,  

It was finally arranged, that I should have a short sitting to begin with - enough to get started on the canvas - and when I have the work "rubbed in" can arrange for other sittings, but I can see that there can't be many, and I shall probably make more or less of a study of the head, and work up from that - on leaving I asked the Aid [[Aide]] if he would express to the King my appreciation of this honor he was doing my country and me,-  
which he cordially said he would do, adding that he would arrange for the sittings just as soon as possible. So ends the 1st chapter!  

When I arrived at the Legation Mr. Whitlock said he was wet through (it was raining) and hadn't time to change, so arranged to have the Sect'y of Legation go with me.  Mr. W. during the talk said he would try to have me meet some of the Belgian Artists.
