the [[?]] situation is, it may all fall through, and they say George is so busy there is little chance at present of getting sittings - And I have had no further word about Pershing, so you see how I have to worry, in spite of the work in hand.

Living here is frightfully expensive, and I can not avoid the expense, it is forced upon one, and the tips! presents etc I have to give adds greatly. I am [[talking?]] about in your case and all that, but acknowledgements have to be made in some shops, Even the Palace attendant, I gave $20- to. [[double-underscore]] (confidential) [[/double-underscore]] and so it goes.

I am getting studies & [[sittings?]] etc. and could leave immediately if I knew where to go to. but it is all in the air, and when I get down hearted, I feel like "chucking it all up," except the King's portrait and sittings it's hard for [[?]] me, then again, they say it is most difficult to get passage, and with it all, the weather for the last 6 weeks has been the most depressing I ever experienced, cold, cold, rain rain, all the time.
