carried off in red cross ambulances, the children tossing flowers to them as they passed—

I suppose you will send this letter on to the children - and then it can be kept as something of a record of a great event at least. I would like to write about it to each of you, and make it more personal, but you know I would if I had the time & energy, my only regret is that the children who are younger and who could longer retain the impression of these events can not witness them, it is a wish always with me, that you might all be with me - the best I can do is to try to see with your eyes.

With love to all of you

Devotedly
Daddy.

[[margin]] I hope everything was propitious during Wendell's stay at home, and shall be as glad to hear of it. Hope to get good news from Marine.[[/margin]]
