May 14th, 1918 —

My dear Henry —

Yours to hand of May 9th I suppose by now you are near our base — I trust all goes OK with you & that the "Flu" has not left you with an weakness, as it did me for several weeks, —indigestion — 

Jesse's extras came rather high this last term, but, of course he had to have the eggs — He has them now you bet, freshly laid that same day —

You would hardly know the kid he has really grown quite stout & [[rosey?]] — 

Jesse has his tea nearly every day with his soldier friends near us. I give them potatoes as their rations in potatoes are not enough & they are delighted so in that way I repay them for what they give Jesse — & he does enjoy being with them. & as they are a very nice lot of men & well educated his
