May 1918

Dear Father.

I am writing to answer your long letter which I received yesterday, and a lot more with it.

As you know by now we had a big raid, the size of which, the killed can be counted in 100dreds, and the bombs 3 times 50 while her gotha's were brought down.

We had 7 bombs go off 100 yards from our [[strikethrough]] raid [[/strikethrough]] house.

Now as you can understand this has upset mother a good deal, it scared me badly but luckily I haven't got many nerves

The next day they attacked Boulogne and [[strikethrough]] Abeville [[/strikethrough]] Abbeville causing frightful damage and only throwing 7 bombs in our vicinity

Think of it bombs near the tram line, bombs all along carrier road, everywhere
