Poor Jock is pretty lonesome, he sticks close by to me and we go for long walks together.

We were glad to hear you say that Jesse looks well and has a good appetite. It is slow work for him, poor boy, but he has surely gone through the worst part of it and is coming around. We hope to hear soon that he is rested after the journey. He must be so pleased to be home again, and, of course, we know how happy you are to have him.

Atherton has just left for Paris. The work in the house is getting on beautifully and everything will soon be finished, soon means by the end of this month. Yesterday, however, things [[strikethrough]] certainly [[/strikethrough]] suddenly came to a standstill as the painters [[strikethrough]] suddenly [[/strikethrough]] had a lapse of memory and telephoned down to say that they did not know what to paint on the top floor. Everything was carefully explained to them before we left and furthermore written down on a piece of paper, but here they were completely at sea about what to
