one very fine [[specimen?]] of the British colinies [[sic]], Australian's and Candana's [[Canadians]]. Two Bosch pelts were given me --on the Buckles are written Got [[Gott]] mit uns. two french sabers which have [[?]] work, one Fritz helmet. I have also 3 [[American?]] Helmet, one French Gas mask & canteen which I use as my own outfit, when I go out. Three of the buttons, one of the imperial Gard [[Guard]] Fritzs). Today is market day. the vilige [[village]] is full of farmers with their ever smelling chees [[sic]]. Pigs and all other kind of things. there are not so many Ams in town, they left during the night it seems. It has been very difficult to get any thing here for the men, because the french line has been driven so far away and the [[face?]] of suplies [[sic]] are so far in the rear. We cannot buy what is needed without going far away. when the Millitary [[sic]] H.Q. was here then it was easy, and as the soulders [[soldiers]] come back from the front they are a terrible cranky lot but [[they have is plenty?]] clear as to what they want & that is eats. real eggs. cocoa. candy and all kinds of things [[strikethrough]]that[[/strikethrough]] which we cannot get either for love or money. Some times that is for a few days we are quite suplied [[sic]] with everything except sweets (which we are dieng [[dying]] for), Jim & me. And then for some days we cannot get anything not even milk to make our [[strikethrough]]coccoa[[/strikethrough]] chockletts [[chocolates]]. then we use condenced [[sic]] milk. all the soulders [[soldiers]] however look finer. every Allie keeps the men in first class shops but it can happen that for a day and some times a week the men in the front line will have nothing to eat but it is because the food cannot be brought to them or they are hot on the heels of Fritz. I made two good led [[lead]] pencil sketches of Fere-en-Tardenois the other day and then walked up toward the line and I tell you that the Allies are leaving nothing undon [[sic]] to keep the Fritzes on the run.

To day is Thursday 22. no letter has come from yet. it is very hard to get letters but it seemes [[sic]] to me that a letter or two should have come, and the last one that did come was such a short business letter and none from Monica & Paul that I count it a month since any letters have come from home. maybe you are giving so many lessons, and the children have so much to do you can find no time.

Transcription Notes:
Spelling errors that are not completely clear I put in [[brackets]]. The spelling errors whose meanings are obvious I followed with [[sic]]
