I was in my bed finely & 230 AM was awaken by some noise in my room and I yeled out who there I heard a voic say god solon its me! it surely was jim. Well he had found a pile of straw and when he was finely asleep he was awaken by rats running accross his face & body (I am sure he was more frightend then from shrapnell,) well he dug out it was the hardest tramp he ever had he say, I am sorry now I did not get up and light the candle and take a good look at his face I bet it was pale and his eyes must have been sticking out a mile it was a long walk [[?]], dark and over the road that the Bousch [[Boche?]] were chased not long ago. I knew fritz well but he did not, eny way I do not thingk he eny more gray. he had a letter from his home and his mother is getting along nicely. Mr [[Blina?]] is going one the over his [[Remmition?]] next monday so I will be in charge of this Foyer fore some time on this account Jim will not be moved now because there is to much for one. and it is difficuld to get a new man our kitchen man had to join his regiment so we are very much pressed. a flying michine is flying by now it looks fine yesterday a Boush michine went by also. I do not see how they get over this far now he probely sneeked by above some clouds they are getting scarce now. last week I found a young man from Utah in the Hospital I am sending you the address of his wife who has had twins (two boys) since he left. tell her that I was with her husband he is doing fine. he is not wonded, he belonged to the Havy artelery and in the terable smell of dead Fritzs and many other trils [[trials]] he had while chassing the Bosches made him get a [[?]] something like I had once but he is doing fine and while here was well taken care of by the french then now been avacuated in an American Hostel at [[strikethrough]] Chotu [[/strikethrough]] and will soon be all right.
