October 26

Dear Emma and Children:
I am now again somewhere in France writing in a little village the Fritza have burned to the ground. We live in the caves most of the time because they destroy everything before leaving. There is much of interest to write but of course I am entirely forbidden in this sector.
Yesterday we gave 2,000 cups of chocolate to the boys in the trenches, 1,000 to the wounded (passing), 1,500 to passing soldiers. It is great work. The soldiers are very much relieved from hunger or thirst by us since it is very hard for their kitchens to keep up with them. They are clammering now at our little window.
I will send you another letter soon, and if you should miss a day or two, it will be because it is difficuly to reach the soldier mailman.
  Lots of love and kisses,
  Solon
