March 19, 1924. H. O. Tanner, c/o Mrs. C.C. Tough, 29 E. 9th St., N.Y.C. Dear Mr. Tanner: Your courteous letter of March 18th has been received, and I am grateful to you for accepting - under circumstances as explained - the "terms of payment" suggested in my communication of 17th instant. Another special meeting of the Richard Humphreys Foundation Board has been called for Monday next, and at that time I believe final action will be taken, one way or the other. Every one, in so far as I am aware, would like exceedingly to see one of your paintings hung at Cheyney, but some of our conservative members hesitate to approve of spending so large a sum of money as $3000.00 for the purpose, because of feeling that it might be applied to scholarships, etc. and in that way become of more tangible benefit. From this you will understand that it is not certain as yet that we shall be able to accept your offer - while at the same time I want you to know that if we do not "carry on" it will be from no lack of desire for from failure to appreciate your talent. With all good wishes for a safe and comfortable journey; I shall be delighted if it proves possible in the future to tell you to pain the proposed "Nicodemus Coming to Christ". Very truly yours, James G. Biddle
