party visited eastern Siberia and Kamtchatka. After the death of Mr. Kennicott in 1866, the charge of the party devolved upon Mr. Dall. In 1871, Mr. Dall began a second series of explorations in Alaska, as an assistant of the Coast Survey, and, although the collecting of zoological specimens was incidental to the primary objects of the undertaking, an immense amount of natural history material was obtained. In 1871 and '72, his explorations included the region of the Aleutian Islands, from Unalashka eastward, and in 1873, they embraced the western half of the same group of islands; in 1874, he visited the region from Sitka to Unalashka, and thence proceeded to the
