Know all men by these presents that I, J.S. Betts ---- of the County of Carroll State of Maryland held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of two hundred dollars for the payment of which I bind myself my heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by their presents in this contract that I am to furnish the persons whose names are subjoined (freed laborers) quarters full substance and healthy rations, all necessary medical attendance and supplies in case of sickness and the amount set opposite their respective names per month during the continuation of this contract, only by mutual consent this contract to be broken
