Washington Aug 30th 1865

Know all men by these presents that I Richard Davis of the County of Howard State of Maryland held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the Sum of Two Hundred ($200.) dollars  for the payment of which I bind myself my heirs and Administrators firmly by these presents in this Contract. That I am to furnish to Jo Turner (Freed laborer), Quarters full substantial and healthy rations and all necessary attendance and supplies in case of sickness and the amount of ten ($10.) dollars per month during the continuation of this Contract.

It is expressly agreed and understood that the said Jo' Turner is to remain with the said Richard Davis until Dec 25 1865 and that the said Richard Davis reserves the right to retain one fourth of the monthly wages of said Jo Turner until the termination of this Contract, as an assurance that this contract will be well and duly performed by the said Jo Turner, when the whole amount is to be paid said Turner.
