September 13th 1865

Know all men by these presents that I, Milton W. Shipley of Maryottsville, Howard County, State of Maryland, held and firmly bound to the United States of America, in the sum of (200.$) two Hundred dollars for the payment of which I bind myself, my heirs, Executors and Administrators, firmly by these presents in this Contract. That I am to furnish the person[[strikethrough]]s[[strikethrough]] whose name[[strikethrough]]is subjoined (free Laborer) quarters full substantial and healthy Rations and all necessary supplies and attendance (not Medical) in case of sickness, and the amount set opposite his name per month, monthly, during the Continuation of this Contract and it is expressly understood that (25 %) twenty five per cent of the amount of said wages are to be retained by said Milton W. Shipley, until the termination of this Contract when said 25 per cent shall be paid in full to Said party. This contract for one month, and at the termination of said month, should the said parties Still remain together then this contract shall remain in full force and otherwise to end on 13th day of October 1865, to be broken only mutual consent  
Samuel Green 25yrs. 10$ per month for one year
George Griffin aged 25yrs. (10$) per month for one year or as per above contract
