Sept 19th 1865

Know all men by these presents that I Charles V. Hammond of MillersVille Anne Arundle County State of Maryland, held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of 200$. two Hundred Dollars for the payment of which I bind myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents in this Contract, that I am to furnish the person whose name is subjoined (Free Laborer) quarters, full substantial and healthy Rations, and all necessary Attendance and Supplies in Case of Sickness and the Amount set opposite His names per month monthly, "less" (25.) twenty five per cent until the termination of this term of service. This Contract to be broken only by mutual consent. At the termination of this Contract then the said (25 per cent) to be paid to the Employee in full -
