Taylor's Island Md Dec 16 1865

Dear sir.

Below you will find a statement of account with Page Lomax, and wife, freed people, employed for me, by my father Sal Bryan, of the Genl Post office Dept. They leave after the short trial in consequence of Tiny Lomax's, sickness or rather her melancholy on account of separation from her children - I pity the poor people very much, but my own cost to let them stay here has been considerable. I have not deducted the fourth of the wages allowed by the contract as I was too glad to get rid of such an incumbrance, to make any difficulty. The people have been very orderly, and in no respect impudent, but as I employed them to do certain work, and they would not do it, they were of no service
