Washington D.C. Oct. 3d, 1865 Know all men by these presents that I, R. Hammond, Baltimore City, of Anne Arundle County, State of Maryland, held and firmly bound to United State of America in the sum of (200$) two hundred dollars, for the payment of which I find myself my heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by the presents in this Contract, that I am to furnish the persons whose name is found (for Laborer) quarters full substantial and healthy Rations, and all necessary attendance and supplies in case of sickness and the amount set opposite his named per month, Monthly, less (25) twenty five per cent which amount is to retained until the termination of this contract then to be paid in full, also all cost of transportation to my place of residence- this contract to be broken only by mutual consent. Cornelius Manby 31 yrs 12$ three months and if he remains longer Reyin [[best guess] Hammond I agree to work as a laborer for the above mentioned R.
