Know all men be these presents that I John E Davis of Howard County, state of Maryland held and firmly bound to the United States of American in the sum of two ($200.) hundred dollars for the payment of which I bind myself my heirs, executors and administrator firmly by these presents in the contract that I am to furnish the persons whose names are subjoined (free laborers) quarters. full substantial and healthy rations and all necessary attendance and supplies in case of sickness and the amount set opposite their names per month, monthly, less twenty (25) five percent which amount is to be retained until the termination of this contract. their to be repaid in full. This contract to be broken only by mutual consent.
