Know all men by these presents that I Dr. J. A. Jones of Mansfield Richland County state of Ohio held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars for the payment of which I bind myself, heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents in this contract. That I am to furnish Thomas Franklin a freedman 23 yrs of age full and substantial and healthy rations and all necessary medical attendance and supplies in case of sickness and in addition the sum of One hundred and ten ($110) dollars for services rendered to me by the said Thomas Franklin as a general farm laborer and house servant for the period of one year beginning on the 24th of Oct 1865 and ending the 24 day of Oct 1866. One half of this one hundred and two dollars to be retained until the 24th day of Oct 1866 the day on which this contract terminates. When the whole account due him shall be paid him. The remaining one half to be paid said Franklin in equal monthly installments. These conditions having been performed the above bond to be of no effect, otherwise of full force and service. I further agree to pay the  cost of transportation from Washington D.C. to Mansfield

Know all men that I Thomas Franklin mentioned in the above bond do agree to labor as a general farm hand and house servant for Dr J. A. Jones of Mansfield Ohio in accordance with the terms of the above contract for the period of one year and bind my self under a penalty of fifty dollars for a falsified performance of the same
