Agreement made and concluded this Third day of November 1865, between Henry Grant and John R Taylor of Wash City, County of Washington, States of Dist Columbia, party of the first part and Chas S Contee, of Aquasco, County of Prince Geo', State of Maryland, party of the second part. 

The said Henry Grant and John R. Taylor, free laborers, agree to enter the service of the said Chas S. Contee  as farm laborers, and, also, that they will faithfully and diligently apply themselves and perform the duties of , on the farm, of said Chas S Contee, and answer all of the reasonable requirements of the said Chas S Contee, for, and during the space of 14 months, from the third day of November, 1865; and they further agree that their employer shall retain one-fourth their monthly wages until the expiration of their term of service. 

And the said Chas S. Contee, hereby agrees to employ them (the said freed laborers) for the term of fourteen months, as aforesaid, and to pay for their services the sum set opposite their respective names, per month - (one-fourth of which shall be retained each month,) and all stoppages and arrearages promptly paid at the expiration of their respective terms of service, to-wit:

To Henry Grant from 3rd Nov. 1865 to 1st April 1866 per month $8.00 from 1st April to 1st Nov/66 $10.00

To John R Taylor per month $8.00 from 3rd of Nov 1865 to 1st April 1866 and $10.00 from 1st April to 1st November 1866

in equal month payments; and the said  , further agrees to furnish said freed laborers above named, quarters, fuel, full substantial and healthy rations, and all necessary medical attendance and supplies in case of sickness, in addition to the compensation above named, and that he will assist and encourage efforts for the education of the children of his employees. And it is further agreed by the said Charles S. Contee, that in case he at any time fails to perform his part of this agreement, he will pay to ^each of the said laborers the full sum of One Hundred and Twenty dollars, as fixed, agreed and liquidated damages. In testimony whereof, they have herewith set their hands and seals, the day and year first above written.
