Articles of Agreement made and concluded this Twenty third day of November, 1865 between James H. Miner of City of Wash', County of Washington, State of Dist. of Columbia, party of the first part and Allen Dansey, of Popler Prings [[Poplar Springs]], County of Howard, State of Maryland, party of the second part. 

The said James H. Miner, free laborers, agrees to enter the service of the said Allen Dansey as Farm Hand, and, also, that they will faithfully and diligently apply [[strikethrough]] themselves [[/strikethrough]] himself and perform the duties of Farmer, on the Premises, of said Allen Dansey, and answer all the reasonable requirements of the said Allen Dausey, for, and during the space of One Year, from the 23rd day of November 1865; and [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] he further agrees that [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] his employer shall retain one-fourth their monthly wages until the expiration of [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] his term of service. 

And the said Allen Dansey, hereby agrees to employ [[strikethrough]] them [[/strikethrough]] him (the said freed laborers) for the term of One Year, as aforesaid, and to pay for their services the sum set opposite their respective names, per month - (one-fourth of which shall be retained each month,) and all stoppages and arrearages promptly paid at the expiration of [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] his respective terms of service, to-wit: 

To James H Miner per month 8$ To May 1st 1866 and $10,00 per month to 23rd day of November 1866

in equal monthly payments; and the said Allen Dansey, further agrees to furnish said freed laborer [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]] above named, quarters, fuel, full substantial and healthy rations, and all necessary medical attendance and supplies in case of sickness, in addition to the compensation above named, and that he will assist and encourage efforts for the education of the children of his employees. And it is further agreed by the said Allen Dansey, that in case he at any time fails to perform part of this agreement, he will pay to  the said laborer [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]] the full sum of One Hundred dollars, as fixed, agreed and liquidated damages. 

In testimony whereof, they have herewith set their hands and seals, the day and year above written.
