Contract with an acting Hospital Steward

(Notice of the annulment of this contract, stating explicitly the cause therefor and the date, must be forwarded to the chief Medical officer of the Bureau at Washington D.C.)

This Contract entered into this 1st day of January 1866, at Freedman's Village Virginia, between Lieut A. W. Tomas V.R.C. and Superintendent, Bureau Refugees, Freedmen &c and acting Hosp. Steward John H. Jones (colored) of the city of St. Johns Ct. B.

Witnesseth; That for the consideration hereafter mentioned the said Act. Steward John H. Jones (colored) promises and agrees to perform the duties of an Act. Hosp. Steward agreeable to Army regulations, at Freedman's Village VA and the said Lieut. A. W. Tomas - Supt. &c promises and agrees on behalf of the United States to pay or cause to to be paid to the said Act. Hosp. Steward John H. Jones (colored) the sum of (20) Twenty dollars for each and every month he shall continue to perform the services above stated.

This Contract to continue at least one year, if not sooner determined by the Assistant Commissioner of  the district for the time being, or the Supt. in charge at Freedman's Village Va.
