Dear Mr. Pepper:-

I was glad to receive your letter of the 29th of June, and afterward to welcome Mr. Heye, with whom I was much pleased. He seems to be just the sort of a man we would like to have take hold of our anthropological work. I was delighted when he told me he was going to unite with Talbott in some of his archaeological researches.
 
It is good news about the Anthropologist. I think it will get well on its feet now that it is on a good broad basis. When you see Talbott please remember me most kindly to him and say that perhaps we will meet in September at St. Louis. It is too bad what you write about McGee. I had not heard that there was any difficulty there; but there always are difficulties in connection with such affairs. We will hope he will overcome them. 

It gives me pleasure to send the promised copy of the "Life of the ancient Mexican". I will enter it on the California list as "Personal at request of Mrs. Nuttall." I know she would wish you to have a copy and this will account for its being sent.
