I sent Miss Meagher a check for ten dollars on account of making the cast. I am dictating this to Miss Mead and shall have to leave her to sign it for me, as I leave for California tomorrow

     Dear Mr. Pepper:-
                 I am sending the Codex by mail either tonight or tomorrow. The Professor and Mrs. started in good health and spirits for the two o'clock train on Sunday, expecting to reach Chicago at the same hour on Monday, and to leave there direct from San Francisco, via Sante Fe.
