Brandon June 17th 1865

Sir:
The undersigned citizens of Brandon would respectfully request, in case it is contemplated by you to appoint a Provost Marshal here, that you appoint Hon. Geo. Wm. Shelton to that position. He is a gentleman of great moral worth, of exemplary habits, a lawyer by profession, and in all transactions animated by a strict sense of justice to all. 

We feel assured he would prove acceptable to the military authorities & also to the citizens & exert himself to restore peace & good order to the country.
