Dear Sir,
       A month has elapsed since I
saw you at your Headquarters and
I expected before this to have heard
from you in solution to the appoint
-ment you were kind enough to offer
me unsolicited on my part-
  On my return here it soon became
manifest to myself and so I have
been assured by hundreds that the 
people of this country were not only
satisfied but exceedingly anxious
that I should fill the place
  Indeed I was assured that my ap
-pointment met universal approbation
  I have been no little amazed
by inquiry from every one I met
