due consideration of that body. Perhaps, however this may not be necessary, as there is now a law of the State in force, which authorizes The Boards of Police to levy taxes for the repair of the levees. Under this law the boards may act at any time. But I feel constrained to add that a considerable time may elapse before it would be prudent to impose a tax, owing to the condition of the country. As soon as it can be done however, I have no doubt it will be done.
