Our property situate on Main Street Natchez was abanded by the tenant at the time our troops took possession of the place, the said property since that time has been occupied for Government purposes and is now, we are informed, in charge of the Freedmens Bureau.

This property has never been seized for the purpose it is now occupied [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]], neither is it entered upon the Rental Books, under what authority it is now held we know not but desire to have it released and also to receive remuneration for its use.

We are also informed that neither Civil nor Military authorities at Natchez appear to know how or in what manner possession was taken by the government.

Your investigation of this matter is respectfully requested and advice desired.
