by the United States forces her said Mother went on a visit to see her daughter Mrs. Ann Noble who lived in Woodville, Wilkinson County in this State and was there at the time said City of Natchez was ocupied by the forces aforesaid, where owing to the Military ocupation the Country between her and her home by hostile troops, her advanced age, very feeble health and the difficulties alluding traveling and the procuring of means of Conveyance Suitable to her age and condition she was compeled to stay and never reached her home, but there died on the 9th day of May 1864 at the venerable age of seventy four years. This petitioner is informed and believes that her mother had been a citizen of Natchez sixty two years before her death and that she never removed from Natchez or abandoned her interest in said property but left the same in the possession of her legal tenants who had for a number of years rented it and up to the date of said seezure by her lawful agents collected the rents thereof. This petitioner further shows that since the death of her said Mother she is the sole owner of said property and that her residence has always been in said City of Natchez and that she has never abandoned said property or been in rebellion against the government of the United States The late unhapy war was brought about without her agency and against her wish, nevertheless she has in accordance with the proclamation of his Excellency Abram Lincoln late President of the United States taken the Oath of Amnesty signed by said Proclamation a copy whereof is herewith attached & made a part of this petition
