Brayman Comdg &c. that then by order of said Brig. Genl Brayman the above described property was immediately turned over to said Mr. Mellen who has remained in possession ever since.

Deponent further made oath that to the best of his recollection & belief the said property was seized by military authority soon after the occupancy of Natchez by the Federal Troops - that for some time it was used for recruiting purposes - that subsequently it was converted into a military hospital & he was informed was retained through military necessity.
