To Brevet Brig Gen Force commanding US forces in Vicksburg Min_

The petition of Susan R Mark have respectfully represents that she is the owner of Lot No 247 in square No 43 in new city which is now in the possession of the military department of the District - Petitioner states that is in all the property she has in the world - that she is a widow sixty four years of age- that in the month of May or June 1862 when the United States flies appeared before the city she returned with the country leaving her house in charge of Mr Henry Bowen a resident of the city - that shortly after her return is to a Mrs Highlander who occupied is until about six or eight months ago when it was taken possession of by the military authorities & has been in their occupancy ever since - Petitioner states that she did not voluntarily surrender her lot but left it as states because she was advised there it would not be safe for her to remain-  she has taken no parts in the war and now that the war is over she
