Sir,
Upon the assurance of Brig-Gen L Thomas, Adjutant General of the Army, that the House and lot belonging to Gustavus Calhoun adjoining the Commercial Bank building, and facing on Canal Street, Natchez, Miss now in the custody of the Treasury Department, was never abandoned & that the owner was never disloyal, I readily say, that I will not take or use [[strikethrough]]this[[/strikethrough]] said lot for this Bureau.

The illegible word is likely a town. I believe the town the prior transcriber queried is Natchez. The word I find illegible, the prior transcriber sees as 'seized'
