Dearest Mom & Uncle,

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. As you know, I went up to Yosemite for 2 days. By the time I got your letter, which was yesterday, I had already gone. I shall tell you about the trip later. It might make you happy to hear that I'm not going to L.A. with Nancy. In fact, I'm not going at all. I guess you're happy about this. I'm too, in a way. I won't be having as much fun, but I won't be spending as much either. Maybe you have a point there. Besides, I hardly know anyone there. I'll be spending Xmas mainly with Ries & Martins. Shall tell you about it later, in the next letter.
By this time, you should have received my report card. I know it's not as good as was expected. [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] I'm trying real hard. This year, all reports aren't good. Half or 2/3 of the boards have D's & F's. Sister Marion is mad. In my Math class, only 1 girl got an A. So don't feel bad. Almost all those girls are top scholars. One thing I'm proud of is my English & [[Hist?]] Civics grade. Never expected an A in English. Some of the good students have flunked it. Something's wrong, I think. Seeing my Chemistry grade, I'm glad I didn't apply MIT. I'd never make it. Talking about colleges, I'm going to write to a few more Eastern ones.
