Dear Miss Ya-Ching:
What would you give to make this a SHORT WAR?
Do you know what a long war costs? China does!
For five years not China has been fighting to save her freedom from the Jap - - the same treacherous Jap who, only seven months ago, attacked our freedom.
More than 3,200,000 Chinese soldiers--soldiers like your sons and brothers or husbands-- are dead.
50,000,000 Chinese civilians--all as peaceful and home-loving as you and your neighbors--are homeless.
2,000,000 Chinese children--innocent children as helpless as yours--are orphans.
My brother, Lieutenant General Joseph W. Stilwell, American Chief of Staff of the Chinese Army, is working with Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek to win the war and win it quickly. I would like to tell you how you can help.
here are some facts about the Chinese situation that are not generally known. The appeasement groups there are very active. They have plenty of ammunition to use, due to the serious reverses the United Nations have suffered--the latest being the loss of Burma. Furthermore, Japan is willing to make almost any kind of a deal with China in order to make available, for service in other countries, the million Japanese soldiers now engaged on that front. Quite obviously, they could then be used to great advantage against Russia, Australia, or the United States.
Make no mistake, if the Chinese front falls -- our hope of a short war falls. At this critical time, renewed strength and encouragement must be given to the Chinese people. Your dollars are needed to support the relief work of an American Civilian Expeditionary Force of 6000 doctors, nurses, engineers and social workers now in China, who are daily giving the Chinese tangible evidence of American friendship. All monies received by the United China Relief are immediately transmitted by radio.
Please mail your check TODAY.

Yours very truly,
John Stilwell
