LEGAL OPINION-- Frederick H. Wood, senior partner of the distinguished New York firm Cravath, de Gersdorff, Swaine & Wood, has given the following opinion on corporate donations to United China Relief, Inc.:

"After careful study and consideration, am of opinion corporations may contribute to United China Relief because of effect of continued Chinese resistance upon duration and possible outcome of war and consequent importance of maintaining Chinese morale.  Consider situation completely changed by our entry into war and that no director runs any risk of charge of wasting corporate assets in contributing to activities believed by him to aid war efforts of United Nations."

In order to attain the goal of $7,000,000 nationally, and $700,000 in Cook County, it will be necessary to have corporations donated to United China Relief one-fourth the amount they recently gave to the American Red Cross.
