Dear Mrs. Cooney

Many thanks for your letter of June 14th and 15th,
Of course an author appreciates being quoted, hence it
was a pleasant idea you had in sending me the Burling-
ton article re the Frick Collection.

Our marble relief, I had yesterday a most pleasant
conversation with Mr. Avery at the V. & A., who re-
mains quite interested in our relief and showed me
several photographs of the German musem, Augsburg,
and in fact, showed me also an article, Monatschefte
fur Kunstwissenschaft, by Dr. G. Biermann. XII Jahr-
gag1919, article by Thomas Muchall-Vierbrock, which
evidently you did not find among the many books and
article you perused. I would suggest that you look
into this, not for what we will learn from it, but
as an important reference or the bibliography on
the marble. The comparison with the "Last Supper"
in Augsburg shows the considerable difference in the
treatment of the drapery which is quite lat compared
to that in our relief.

Mr. Avery would like to receive a photograph of the
Agresti fresco and further data on the Cort engraving,
which he did not seem to know about. Do remind me of
this upon my return to New York. Meanwhile, do have
the material ready.

Cahrles Maurin. Beside the rich material we have al-
ready sent you, duly received, I trust, you will find
a good deal more on the artist in a catalogue of French
Symbolist Painters, an exhibition now being held here
in London (Hayward, Gallery) which catalogue I am tak-
ing back, of course.

Raffaelli portrait. As you will be told, I have just
acquired a portrait by him of Albert Clemenceau, the
brother of Georges Clemenceau of World War I. Raffaelli
as you may know, is an Impressionist artist, thus a
contemporary of Degas to whom our drawing bears a re-
semblance in general style.

Catalogues. I am glad the library is improved in
this respect.
