Mrs. Ruth Law Oliver

San Francisco 27, California

Dear Mrs. Oliver:

Back in 1916 as you may recall, Earl Harding of the NEW YORK WORLD was an active figure in the preparation for that historical day on which the Statue of Liberty was lighted so that it might stand out at night as in the day.

Now Mr. Harding for the July issue of SERVICE has recalled the story of that occasion, revealing for the first time the part played in it by George Williams and Henry L. Doherty of the Cities Service Company. His story naturally includes a reference to the flight you made that day.

Yesterday, when this issue of SERVICE came from the press, Mr. Harding suggested that ten copies be sent along to you. This has been done but in case there may be some delay in their delivery, I am enclosing another in this air mail communication.

It is our hope that you will be pleased by "Liberty in the Dark" which begins on page 8. Needless to say, if you have use for any additional copies, you have only to let us know and these will be sent to you immediately.

Sincerely,
William H. Walsh
