Miss Ruth Bancroft Law will attempt to break the world's altitude record for women at the Aeronautical Society's aviation meet at its new field at Oakwood Heights, Statent Island, Tuesday. The record is 3,100 feet, held by Mlle. Dietru, of France. George W. Beatty will show the maneuvers necessary to qualify for an international pilot's license. He will take as a passenger some young woman to be selected by lot. Harry Bingham Brown will attempt to break the American altitude record, carrying a woman passenger. Other fliers will be George M. Dyott, the English aviator, and Cecil Peoli, the youngest professional in the air game. Many Noted Aviators Will Attend Opening of New Field on Staten Island. Miss Ruth Bancroft Law will attempt to break the women's altitude record at the opening of the Aeronautical Society's new field at Oakwood Heights to-day, the first aviation meet on Staten Island. It is her ambition to attain an altitude of one mile in her Wright machine. Aside from the opening of the new field, the meet has been arranged as an entertainment for the officers and sailors of the fleet, and hundreds of them are expected to attend. The field is to be devoted permanently to the use of aviators in new York, and will be the only one within the city limits. A dozen or more of the best known aviators in the meet will compete today. Among them are Captain Thomas S. Baldwind, George W. BEatty, Harry Bingham Brown, Cecil Peeli and O. E. Williams of Scranton. Frederick Rodman Law will jump with a parachute from Mr. Brown's machine from a height of 2,000 feet. Sharpshooting from Aeroplane. Dillion Hoffman will demonstrate sharpshooting from an aeroplane and Frank Coffyn will make a flight from Wickatunk in the Collier aeroplane. An elaborate programme has been arranged, including demonstrations showing the methods of making spiral dips. At a meeting of the Aeronautical Society last night it was decided that no aviator should fly over the grand stand. Any flyer who violates this rule will be barred from further participation in the tournament. The field as been arranged so as to prevent spectators from wandering over it during the flying events and an ample polive force will be present to protect the crowd.
