S.F. Woman at Air Meet

---

In 1916 Ruth Law astounded the world by flying from Chicago to New York in five hours and forty minutes.

Last Week she observed the twenty-fourth anniversary of the Dole Race to Honolulu by boarding a TWA Constellation for Detroit--the second commercial airliner she has ridden in twenty-five years.

Miss Law, who lives in San Francisco, is in Detroit for the annual meeting of the National Association of Aeronautics.

Her Chicago-New York flight set a non-stop solo flying record. Miss Law explained she has flown only twice in the last quarter century because it made her husband, the late Charles Oliver, nervous to have her around planes.

Crash Follows Ice Cream Burps

LOGANSPORT (Ind.), Aug. 19.--A new excuse-- and ice cream hangover--got 76 year old Joseph Sylvester the minimum fine--$1--on a reckless driving charge.

Sylvester's automobile sideswiped another car. He told a justice of the peace he had eaten too much ice cream. It caused him to burp, he said, and he lost control of the car.

NUDISTS ELECT KING AND QUEEN

---

MAYS LANDING (N.J.), Aug. 19.--James Suplee and Mrs. Marjorie Secor wore crowns and nothing else.

But nobody called police.

The 19-year-old youth from Palmerton, Pa., and the pretty 21-year-old blonde from Prospect Park, Pa., were chosen nudist king and queen of the Eastern Sunbathing Association.

The eastern nudists wrapped up their annual convention by electing J. Reed Suplee, father of the new king, president; James Grant, Mays Landing, vice president; David Scoles, Miami, Fla., secretary; and Gaeton Couture, Montreal, Can., and Mrs. Pam Johnson, Palmerton Pa., directors.

Black Nightcaps for High Church Clergy

LONDON, Aug. 19.-Church of England clergymen may wear only plain nightcaps of black silk, satin or velvet.

The Archbishop of York, Dr. Cyril Garbett, disclosing this to a bewildered House of Laity, declared that "obsolete" canon laws drawn up in 1603 still govern the Church of England.

He admitted that "no one attempts to observe them," adding that "little respect" is paid to canon law and "no wonder."
