NONSTOP RECORD HOLDER

In 1914 Ruth Law electrified the country with aerial exhibitions, which included racing with autos. In 1916, she set a U.S. nonstop record of 512 miles, Chicago to Hornell, N.Y., in the plane at left, a Curtiss pusher with Wright controls. Left stick made plane go up and down, right banked it by warping wings. Now a San Francisco housewife, Ruth Law Oliver (above) holds helmet, map she used on flight.
