FANS STILL CRY FOR RETURN GO WITH CHAMPION

NEW YORK, Feb. 9.—Rapping a "natural" match is like trying to tell a love-struck debbie that her handsome fiancé is a burglar, piker, four-flusher and fugitive from a long line of overdue board bills. The more she hears, the greater her sympathy. The more the customer hear about the hopeless incompetence of Luis Angelo Firpo, the more passionate becomes the popular longing to see him smitten down again by Jack Dempsey for a fee of half a million.

When they met last September everyone had been warned that Firpo knew as much about his business as a fish knows about footwork. He was without exception the very worst boxer that ever chinned himself on his own hook. His left hand wasn't even an ornament. He took five minutes to feint. He moved like a ten-ton truck in a bog. Luis Angelo Firpo was terrible, and he lasted through less than four minutes of fighting, notwithstanding that he once flipped Dempsey clear out of the area and had him careening down Goofey boulevard for thirty seconds in Round 1.

And so it goes on the entire afternoon, until they rise wearily to their feet at the end of the afternoon's entertainment, and drag their way out to some dining hall to get an early supper.

The thrill was when they climbed into the stand; it was a sort of an anti-
