April 1 1940. Well, the Richmond acceptance proved to be just another sign that I am on the right track, that I must hold on and never [[crossed-out]] despair [[crossed-out]] let go. It was gratifying to see my name next to Taubes & close to Sterne in the catalog. The vacation in town was swell. Harlan Reynolds & Buddy - we three have so much to discuss. Honolulu offers a stimulating life. Kanai is beautiful - but so dull - so uninspiring. Today, this very hour - the flood of romanticism returned & drowned the last bit of social consciousness in me.
