Sunday - 29th Dec

At Kailua, near Kona Inn.
The ride from Paauilo to Kailua took me over beautiful land. The Kunoa cattle country is silvery yellow, very much like Peter Hurd's landscape (Life mag) of New Mexico. The hills are like California, but with more waves of silver light. It was rainy; Kohala to the right, was hidden in rain. At about 6 pm I could see the Lava flows, with many branches spreading toward the sea. They were black rivers with olive green lava grasses flowing with them. It was a good a good view of the northern section, the lava, rain, and the distance all meeting by the sea.
