Maj. Gen. Geo. H. Thomas
Nashville, Tenn

Dear Sir
About the year 1857 in settling a claim deed the firm of "Armstrong Allan Co" by a man in Vicksburgh Miss we had deeded to one of the firm (C. Q. Armstrong) a House & Lot in Vicksburgh, which we John R Allen & R. H. Waggener and Mrs "Amanda F Armstrong", widow of the late C. Q. Armstrong, have continued to hold under the same deed, intending to sell the property & divide pcd. between the Partners when we could do so to advantage

Since the close of the War we find the Property in possession of the "Freedmans Bureau", & we cant get possession to sell it.

We are informed that it is worth about $1500. or thereabouts. Now the favor we wish to ask of you is to order possession restored to our, or her, agent there, upon presentation of the Papers showing the proper ownership to be as I have herein represented it.

If this comes within the person of your jurisdiction — you will do us a great favor to grant the order — or direct us what course to take in the premises.

Very Respectfully
R. H. Waggener
