- they had to be withdrawn. Afterward the agent visited the place during the setting of County Court and held a public discussion with the people in regard to colored schools. Though this was undoubtedly a step in the right direction, and the agent was not abused - yet an overwhelming vote of the crowd decided that they should have no negro schools. I am now in correspondence with some of the colored people at that place who hope that they shall be able to arrange for [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] supporting teachers next year - and that public feeling may become so mollified by that time as to allow their working there.
  
At Vicksburg and Natchez no organized opposition and no violence has been exhibited - and equally no good will.
  
At Okolona an aged Episcopal clergyman twenty year a resident of the south has had four shots fired at him because he was engaged in a colored school - and I have
