Redwood City, Cal.
April 13th 1877

Left San Francisco in company with [[S??]] Beall on a hunting trip.

Arriving at the above named town and not being very much pleased with the [[strikethrough]] gu [[/strikethrough]] outlook we decided to go to the Ranche of a man named Weeks about 12 miles southwest and just beyond the summit of the Coast Range mountains. The atmosphere was mild and [[raining?]] like when we started --about three P. M.) but as we ascended the mountains the large masses of fog drifting up over the summit gave us an indication of the chilly wind and dense fog which we encountered farther up. Redwood City is pleasantly situated
