St. Michael’s Alaska. December 1877- 1st Fog and light snow during the day. Dec 2 At 10 am a mock sun was observed about 20[degrees] to the right of the sun upon a cumulus cloud It was of a peculiar brassy lustre but not very sharply defined. [[crossed out]] December 3 [[/crossed out]] A peculiarity about this was that the sun has not yet [[crossed out]] a [[/crossed out]] appeared above the horizon. December 3 and 4 Nothing of interest- a faint aurora was seen on the evening of the 5th only a faint glow however, was seen. December 6 about four inches of snow fell only a small portion of which was caught in the rain gauge owing to the wind December 7- Light snow in the P.M. A short time before dark Agnapiak arrived from Unalakleet with a sled. During the evening he produced some presents he had brought--among which were some trofasa’s for the agents and some models of squirrel and fox traps for me also as a kind of “bolas” with eight ivory balls each attached to a string of braided deer sinew fastened together at their extremities with the balls hanging free a loop in the end of the cords for admitting the third finger is used in throwing the instrument.
