Jacob Covington complains that Carrol Avery arrested him in or about the 1st of June 1868, and took him about two miles as a prisoner accusing him of stealing corn, he at the time had a gun and threatened to shoot him if Covington did not tell him where he got the Corn. He, Covington told him he got it from his brother Matthew Covington - Avery said this was not so, that he was informed that Covington and Henry Crowder stole the corn out of his (Averys) Corn house and that if he Covington did not pay he would blow his brains out in order to save his life, he Covington being in mortal fear of Avery he complied with his Averys demand and said he & Henry Crowder stole the Corn from the Corn house.
