Monhegan '70
(arrived June 2)
First entry;
June 20 1970. A second bright cerise-red O. poppy opened today. And a yellow lupine (from seed planted 2 years ago?) This is the day of Sherm's wedding. We got dressed up + were over at 2 for the ceremony at Gussow's house. Everybody or almost everybody was there. Cake + peppermint ice cream, + champagne. Then returned home to change into warmer clothes for the supper at 5. Sat with Glen Krause + Magee Barstow + Jack Cabot + a Welshman. Good food (Jewish!) + after an hour or so I had to get out of the crowd (of strangers? they are strangers still to me - most of them) + came home + felt impelled to sketch + be alone

June 21 -
The garden is full of surprises. One of the Valencias, very dead looking, showed signs of greening. Went over by way of rocks to Werbes to advise on Ray's vegetable patch location. Also took a look at Bill's garden. The path along the rocks showed much erosion. At 230 Helen Corbett came over with Glenn P(?) + her 3 kids. Apricot juice + pecan cookies. Showed them the garden. Later Pam came over for chat by the garden. (Earlier, Chas. Devlon, John Hultberg's Boswell showed up). For lunch had first salad of thinking's - radish, cress, rucola, lettuce leaves from plants seeded form last year's plants.
Longest day. Sky glowing at 9:30
