[[strikethrough]] Tues [[/strikethrough]]
Mon July 6. Picked a bag of lettuce & spinach greens for Ray's dinner tonight. McCartins, Mollers, Martins there - for lasagna. After supper we all went out on porch to see the new moon setting, with bright Venus poised over it. [[image]] Small talk of gardens, people, garbage, gas etc. It is impossible to discuss political matters when Jan & Charlie are around as the pounce on issues with 1930 claws, no matter what the ramifications are today. But the viewing of the moon, casually, matter-of-factly, the oceanside there beyond the cliffs, Manana there, the stars (Arcturus again) - that is really what I remember.

Tues July 7. Joan & Alan, boys and her sister & family arrived. To dock to meet them. Lunch for all, of franks & beans, bread (home baked) & upside down muffins & iced tea. After supper me & Alan took a walk to Lobster Cove. Detoured to see the stand of daisies at Tarlow's excavation. looked for pigweed in the twilight at the cove.

Wed July 8. The sucker-rose bloomed, a fine very dark velvety red small perfectly shaped flower - a very tall & vigorous bush - a floribunda? Nice surprise. Tried all day to paint but h.f. [[hay fever]] bothered me. Lobsters for supper. Then Zero & Jack Guildford dropped in for a few minutes. Z acted up, with mock guitar & song. At 9, to Gussows. Sat in l.r. & chatted with Don & Barbara Kellerman (?) & Bruce & Leslie (their kids). At 11 spotted the blazing eyes of a deer in swamp. Went out with flashlt. & rocks to throw at it. (Hurt my back; the next day felt muscle spasms)
